If you play seriously and want a competition-grade table, go slate. The 25mm stone bed never warps, so the roll stays true for decades. If the table is going in a rumpus room for the family and the kids, MDF is genuinely good, and the Viper 8ft at $1,599 is our best seller for a reason. Both are solid options.
Yes, anywhere in New Zealand. We freight your order direct to the depot nearest you, one of 23 across both islands. From there you can collect it yourself or have a local carrier bring it the rest of the way. Because we send depot to depot, we get freight rates you can’t get on your own, which can save you hundreds of dollars. Freight is priced by island and shown at checkout before you pay. In Auckland and Christchurch, yes, definitely. Anywhere else in New Zealand it’s a real possibility, but we price each job individually. Send us a message with the product you’re after and your address, and we’ll work out the price for you. We can’t deliver to rural addresses.

MDF tables are very easy. They come 90% assembled, so you just bolt the legs on and you’re playing in about half an hour. A slate table is a bigger job, but still very straightforward, and usually takes two to three hours to set up with a mate.

Every pool table ships with a full set of balls, two cues, a triangle and a table brush. You can upgrade to carbon fibre cues for $59 at checkout, and covers are $89 if you want to keep the dust off. With a slate table you can also upgrade to the Slate Accessory Kit, a more extensive kit suited to professionals.

Buying a pool table in New Zealand
The Ultimate Mancave has been kitting out New Zealand games rooms from our warehouses in the North and South Islands for years, and in that time we have learned that most people are stuck on the same three questions: what size table fits, whether slate is worth the money, and what the freight is going to cost to get it home.
On size, an 8ft table is the right call for the overwhelming majority of New Zealand homes. It needs roughly 5.4 by 4.3 metres of clear floor to play properly with a full-length cue, which suits a double garage or a decent rumpus room. A 9ft table is a tournament-size table and wants closer to 5.8 by 4.5 metres. If your room is tighter than that, a 7ft table or a shorter 48in cue will buy you back around 300mm on each side.
On slate versus MDF: our Viper 8ft MDF tables start at $1,599 and are far better than the price suggests — they are the tables most Kiwi families end up with, and they hold a 4.9 star rating across nearly two hundred reviews. Slate tables like the Boston 8ft and 9ft start at $5,499 and are a different proposition: a three-piece 25mm stone bed that stays dead flat for decades, K66 professional tournament cushions, and the weight and roll of a table you would find in a pool hall.
